Hello. If you're reading this, you are no doubt aware of the issues right now facing the internet.
Presently there are an entire list of bills that have passed committee here in the United States, all of which could be disastrous, but none so seriously appalling and repugnant as repealing Section 230.
🠶 Multiple bills are being pushed at the moment. I have not been able to make an exhaustive list but some are so terrible that it would create a full-on, baked-in panopticon state.
🠶 HR 8250 proposes tying IDs to devices, then letting the government link them with NSPM-7 "domestic terrorist" lists and would trigger device lockouts upon detecting "unacceptable" speech.
🠶 New law was signed recently that mandates in-car surveillance ('driver monitoring') for new models starting next year.

Core legislation that has kept the internet running for a long time here, is under assault from multiple organizations and governments. Presently, our government is hell-bent on pushing age verification and digital ID schemes that would tie all posts to the identity of users without regard to privacy. The pretexts for this include removing content that would run counter to the present regime's goals―excising LGBTQ+ content and sex work content entirely, among many other spheres of the internet. It is already well-known that certain corporations have begun gathering information in furtherance of the NSPM-7 memo issued earlier this year, painting law-abiding citizens as 'anti-Christian', 'anti-American' and 'anti-capitalist' for daring to voice an opinion that was even slightly different from the selected president. A concerted effort has been pushed in other countries like Australia, which has recently banned all social media for kids under 16 years of age, but leaving specific carve-outs and exemptions for more established platforms.
☞ It has always been an established methodology, that the groups pushing "Think of the children" are always engaged in the opposite manner t.e. they are not about protecting children, but protecting their donors' avenues by which children can be "properly" indoctrinated towards the aims of the ruling party. The tired old cries about 'gay indoctrination' and other canards and slurs―have now been repurposed into 'trans indoctrination', 'gender ideology', and 'wokism'. These terms don't mean anything to most people, but the truth is that a lot of government see people, especially women, as broodmares for the state. That is a direct policy choice. Protecting children is not the goal of the government, it is about protecting government's access to the bodies of women. Children are a distant secondary to be dealt with if they survive. Rollbacks on individual decisions regarding women's bodies are a distinct feature of this government's willingness to place limits on expression and life. Can't pee in the bathroom you want, can't get the healthcare you want, can't get anything worth a damn.
Let's be clear: SCREEN, KOSA and repealing Section 230 would effectively render the internet unusable, prone to ridiculous lawsuits, and lack of moderation in any remaining forum or website. I know there are multiple people that need calling, but I trust that individuals will find their representatives.
Call them. Tell your representatives repeatedly if you must, that repealing Section 230, or enacting SCREEN or KOSA, will kill the internet. Tell them that trading liberty for security gains neither of these things.
